Hiring The Best Freelance Web Developers

Finding the best freelance developer for your business can be especially tricky these days since they’re so high in demand.

This is partially due to exploding marketplaces like Xero, Salesforce, Slack, Shopify, WooCommerce, Zoom, and so on, that all have insatiable and specific needs from their customers. In response, a lot of businesses have stepped into the fold to profit from the increasing demand by developing apps. This, of course, is in addition to existing demand for web apps, iOS apps, WordPress plugins, etc.

It can be even harder to do if you’re not a developer yourself since it’ll be difficult to judge the quality of their work.

Given the challenge, I’ll outline a few options for you to be able to find the best possible developers to hire online.

hire an upstack developer

1. Upstack

Upstack is network of vetted software developers.

They have a careful vetting process where they choose only the top programmers from around the world.

Their customers include major brands like Microsoft, Ikea, TaskRabbit, and SquareSpace.

This is my favourite option by far since I save the hassle of having to source and filter developers and the Upstack pricing is very reasonable given the quality — usually from $50 to $90 an hour or so including all fees. You pay only the hours logged by your developer.

They have developers that specialize in:

  • Web Apps generally
  • Node.js
  • React.js
  • Angular
  • iOS
  • Android
  • WordPress
  • Shopify
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Golang
  • Java
  • Python
  • PHP

You can try Upstack and get $2000 in development fees for free here. This works out to being about 1-2 weeks of free development work, depending on the number of hours logged by your developer and your developer’s hourly rate.

hire a developer on fiverr

2. Fiverr

If you need something quick and fast done, then Fiverr is the place to do it. It’s my go to for odd jobs here and there.

For example, let’s say that you’re running Facebook ads to a Shopify product page and it’s working well.

The issue with Shopify is that loading speed can be very slow so you can run an experiment where you have a super fast loading and clean HTML page that looks the same but just much faster. This is something you can get someone on Fiverr to do for you pretty quickly and definitely doesn’t require something like Upstart to do.
