If you’re looking for an alternative to Ahrefs, you’ve come to the right place.

Ahrefs is one of my favourite SEO tools. Having said that, I don’t think that it’s right for everyone. For example, if you’re just starting out as a solopreneur on a shoestring budget, then shelling out $200 a month isn’t a great use of money.
While you can’t replicate all of the powerful features in Ahrefs, there are ways to get parts of it for free or for much cheaper.

1. SEMRush
If you’re just looking for a solid alternative, then SEMRush is a great option and one that I recommend over the rest of the options here.
I use it not only for all of my blogs but also for consulting engagements.
It’s not cheaper than Ahrefs but in my opinion one of the best all in one SEO tool out there.
Like Ahrefs, SEMRush provides a ton of valuable training material to help you grow your business and rank your website. They even have weekly webinars you can participate in.

2. Screaming Frog
If you’re looking for a very budget option, Screaming Frog is at only £149.00 Per Year (works out to £12.42 per month) in addition to having a free version available.
You can crawl 500 URLs on the free version.
The crawler goes through your whole site and creates an extensive list of all your internal pages and keeps track of a lot of different important elements over time. While not the most user friendly but very useful for technical SEO.
3. Ubersuggest
You can use it for keyword research, backlink analysis, SERP analysis and rank tracking.
While they have paid plans, you can use their free option.
You can’t do Keyword Research for free on Ahrefs but you can do so on Ubersuggest including keyword difficulty analysis.

4. Raven Tools
While more expensive than Screaming Frog, it’s an affordable all in one SEO tool.
5. Moz
A solid competitor to both Ahrefs and SEMRush. For the price though, I think that Moz is a bit weak on keyword research and would definitely choose both Ahrefs and SEMRush over Moz (for now).
They do have a free toolbar which I use.
6. Google Keyword Planner.
A free tool that you can use as part of the Google Ads program to figure out keyword volume throughout time and expected future keyword searches.
